City “SuperScrapers”

The ever changing skyline of the City is set for extraordinary additions over the next few years to 2026 as illustrated in the above image. (Prepared by GMJ)

2019 is set to see the completion of the City’s tallest building at 22 Bishopsgate, a joint development by AXA IM and Lipton Rogers which is part under offer to insurers including Hiscox, Beazley and TBH Group.

This 278m tower in EC3 is set to retain its tallest City building status until the opening of the 305m “Tulip” building in the mid 2020’s adjacent to The Gherkin (a mere 180m tall!).  The building sits within the “Cluster” area designated by the Corporation of London, falling outside the principal constraints of St Paul’s height lines.

But in context 18 “superscraper” (buildings over 300m tall) were completed worldwide last year, with 20 more due by the end of 2019.  These include the CITIC Tower in Shanghai topping out as the world’s highest “Super SuperScraper” at 528m.
